Synopsis: Nicky is a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes romantically involved with novice con artist Jess. As he’s teaching her the tricks of the trade, she gets too close for comfort and he abruptly breaks it off. Three years later, the former flame—now an accomplished femme fatale—shows up in Buenos Aires in the middle of the high stakes racecar circuit. In the midst of Nicky’s latest, very dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop…and the consummate con man off his game.

With glitzy filming location from New Orleans to Buenos Aires, Focus could be classified as the Hustle meets Derren Brown, with the cons and scams slickly executed at dizzying speed, as marks are robbed.
Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Neighbours) is glamourous and an apt pupil to Hollywood star Will Smith’s charismatic master scammer. Both have enough chemistry to carry the film and Smith – who memorably conned in Six Degrees of Separation in 1993 – is in good shape – something that cannot be said of the creaky plot. Mamet’s House of Games it is not!
An entertaining romantic comedy with added grifters, Focus from directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy Stupid Love) also features Brennan Brown (remember the Orange film commission ads?) Rodrigo Santoro and Gerard McRaney.
