A visually stunning and narratively satisfying adventure tale skilfully adapted from the famous 1844 novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. The film is written and by directors and writers Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière – the team behind the recent two-part Three Musketeers adaptation starring Pierre Niney [Yves Saint Laurent (2014)] in the role of Edmond Dantès

Epic, bold and briskly paced featuring a stellar ensemble  Dumas’ famous story tells how young mariner Edmond Dantès (Niney) is imprisoned ad eternum in the Chateau d’If, Marseille’s own Devil’s Island, after being framed as a Bonapartist by shady prosecutor Villefort (Laurent Lafitte) and backstabbed by his pal Fernand (Bastien Bouillon), a rival for the hand of his wife-to-be Mercédès (Anaïs Demoustier). Inheriting a vast fortune and prepared by fellow inmate Abbé Faria (Pierfrancesco Favino), Dantès re-emerges in Parisian high society as the enigmatic aristocrat. But behind the lavish mansion and faultless manners he is a simmering volcano of revenge.

Directors Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière, concentrate in their concise and elegant script on the intriguing in two protégés: foundling André (Julien de Saint Jean) and beautiful Ottoman princess Haydée (Anamaria Vartolomei), whose romances are designed to hurt the count’s betrayers.

This is an audacious, truly epic and  satisfying retelling of  the popular 19th century classic novel by Alexandre Dumas about betrayal, revenge, mercy, forgiveness and redemption.

Charismatic Pierre Niney stars as a Edmond Dantès with a stellar ensemble in a swashbuckling adventure, stunning scenery and luxuriant chateaux with cinematography by Nicolas Bolduc and a  beautiful music score by Jérôme Rebotier.
