A visually spectacular drama from acclaimed director Juan Antonio Bayona [“The Impossible” (2012),The Orphanage (2007)], based on the award-winning children’s fantasy novel.

Life is tough for 12-year-old Conor O’Malley (Lewis MacDougall). His mum (Felicity Jones) is battling a terminal illness, while his distant, divorced dad (Toby Kebbell) has started a new life in the US. He is bullied at school and beset by nightmares. His only adult companion is his severe, brittle maternal grandmother (Sigourney Weaver). Then something fantastic happens. A giant yew tree (Liam Neeson in top performance-capture mode) springs to life, stomps over to Conor’s window and begins to tell him astonishing fairy tales. Adapted by Patrick Ness from his own acclaimed young adult novel, this intimate, ultimately heart-warming fable about a boy coming to terms with the messiness of real life is all the more moving for being rooted in genuine fears.

This emotionally powerful fantasy drama is a stunning spectacle, blending beautiful animation and incredible special effects with amazing sets.
