Noah Baumbach teams up again with his Frances Ha co-writer and star, Greta Gerwig, for this witty and quirky New York female comedy, featuring Lola Kirke as Tracy.
In this different kind of coming of age drama Tracy is lonely and missing out on the exciting life that she thought a move to New York and university would bring. When she meets her prospective stepsister, the charismatic and hip Brooke, Tracy soon develops a major crush and her world opens up as she becomes involved in her idol’s wacky schemes. Like Baumbach’s last film – the marvellous, inter-generational comedy While We’re Young – there are wry observations and questions of creative integrity arise. Like Annie Hall, it is a sophisticated female centred slice of New York life.
With a great backing ensemble, Gerwig and Kirke shine as new stars in this modern screwball comedy of female friendship, a coming of age tale which is always an interesting watch.
