THAT AWKWARD MOMENT
THAT AWKWARD MOMENT
Run time: 94mins
Director: Tom Gormican
Cast: Zak Efron, Miles Teller, Imogen Poots, Michael B. Jordan
Synopsis: Three best friends find themselves where we’ve all been – at that confusing moment in every dating relationship when you have to decide “So…where is this going?”
Three privileged twenty something Manhattan chums (Zac Efron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan) make a pact not to date or commit after Doctor Mikey is dumped by his wife for her divorce lawyer. This is no problem for them since they have a regular supply of available casual sex partners, in this new take on the romantic comedy.
Pretty soon afterwards, Jason (Zac Efron – High School Musical, Liberal Arts, and Parkland) meets his dream girl, Ellie (Imogen Poots –Filth, A Late Quartet, 28 Weeks Later) and happily engages in smart banter in a trendy bar before heading off to spend the night with her. But in the post-coital gloom, he spots a pair of fashion boots and some condoms and bizarrely concludes that Ellie must be a ‘hooker’; he skulks off in the middle of the night.
The film continues in a similar boy-meets-girl-loses-her etc. formula, in all the permutations for the three guys, set in a world of swish Manhattan landscapes, houses, bars and coffee shops.
Hopefully you never reach That Awkward Moment when you realise that you don’t find any of this bunch cute and lovable, you don’t empathise with their ‘dilemmas’, appreciate their sexist and insensitive behaviour or laugh at their vulgar ‘dick’ and scatological jokes.
