IN FEAR

IN FEAR (15)
Run time: 90mins
Director: Jeremy Lovering
Cast: Iain De Caestecker, Alice Englert, Allen Leech
Synopsis: A young couple set off for an Irish music festival. Driving, lost and tormented in the night, they find it impossible to reach their remote destination. Primal fears of the dark and the unknown give way to terror and the suspicion that they have let pure evil in, or that it was already there…
This could just as easily have been called ‘Driven to Distraction’ as it contains some genuine creepy and frightening moments of psychological horror, even if it follows a familiar formula of boy meets girl and they get lost in the woods after dark.
It’s an assured three hander with Tom (Iain De Caestecker, known for Filth, Not Another Happy Ending and Coronation Street) and Lucy (Alice Englert, seen in Beautiful Creatures, Ginger and Rosa) celebrating their two week anniversary with a trip to a rural music festival, but hitting the buffers when they run into Max (Allen Leech, probably best known for Downton Abbey).
After incidents in an isolated country pub, Tom and Alice set out on a detour for the country house hotel which Tom has booked as a surprise. Things then start to go horribly wrong and the tension, paranoia and fear start to crank up ……
An impressive chilling feature debut from television director, Jeremy Lovering, the film has tight claustrophobic camerawork and well controlled tension, becoming a compelling study of trust and fear itself.
