Hotly tipped to be one of the films of the year LEAVE NO TRACE, is the latest haunting film from Debra Granik (the Academy Award®-nominated Winter’s Bone, Stray Dog, Down to he Bone), a moody, mysterious and mesmerizing exploration of an unexpected existence on the edge. A teenage girl – breakout newcomer Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie – and her father Ben Foster – Hell or High Water, 2016; Hostiles, 2017; 3.10 to Yuma, 2007 – have lived undetected off-the-grid for years in Forest Park, a vast woods on the edge of Portland, Oregon. A chance encounter leads to their discovery and removal from the park and into the charge of a social service agency. They try to adapt to their new surroundings, until a sudden decision sets them on a perilous journey into the wilderness seeking complete independence and forcing them to confront their conflicting desire to be part of a community and fierce need to live apart. Based on the novel “My Abandonment” by Peter Rock with stunning cinematography by Michael McDonough and an atmospheric score from Dickon Hinchcliffe – both of who worked on Winter’s Bone (2010)
Ben Foster as Will – a war veteran suffering from PTSD – gives a stunning performance of tender realism as the father trying to protect his teenage daughter Tom (Thomasin McKenzie) from ‘normal society’ and find a place where they can truly belong.
The outstandingly talented Thomasin McKenzie gives an unforgettable performance.
