New Zealand cult director Taika Waititi [Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016), What We Do in the Shadows (2014)] also plays Korg in this superbly colourful and hilarious romp which, with its Antipodean dead pan humour, is funnier than most comedies around.

Chris Hemsworth is back for the third chapter in Marvel’s solo-superhero series about the ancient god of thunder Thor; it is much less serious and dark than the previous outings with the chance to poke more fun at the pompous side of the God of Thunder. A running joke gets funnier as the film progresses. Tom Hiddlestone shines as the devious brother, Loki, while Mark Ruffalo gives Hulk an appealing personality, providing Hemsworth with two contrasting adversaries.

Cate Blanchett is a formidable villain as Hela, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Karl Urban as Skurge are welcome additions also.

Jeff Goldblum is the gloriously eccentric Grandmaster and the film boasts several unexpected, hilarious cameos, which all add to the mayhem.

The film is a visually striking and entertaining must-see cosmic adventure – a truly welcome fun addition to the franchise.
